Shane Kalyn

“Keep your love of nature for that is the true way to understand art more and more” - Vincent van Gogh

This quote greets Shane Kalyn’s customers on his website and summarizes the goal of his artistic journey which he captivates through a camera lens.

Born and raised in British Columbia, Shane always found himself fascinated with wildlife and nature. Which is why he chose to connect his career path as a fisheries technician - a job he loves - with a career in photography as both jobs created an opportunity to travel to any remote corners of the province. Ever since he was young, his passion for photography and a desire to imprison the beauty and wonders of nature impacted him throughout his adolescence.

In 2018, Shane became a part of the team at The Canid Project which is a non-profit organization. Their focus is on small animal welfare and Shane is now the Lead Photography Co-Instructor for the canid-based photography workshops.

4 Element Photos

Fast FoodThe concept of 4 Element Photos is the recognition of balance that hides within nature. As Shane has an extreme interest in these four fundamental blocks known as Fire, Air, Water and Earth. Each of his works fits a specific category of one of the elements, such as ocean views and its creatures are related to Water, and stunning humming-birds and vultures to Air. However, in many cases the audience may look at one specific photograph and wonder what element inspired Shane for that specific shot, as it collaborates the beauty of all four natural blocks? Such interesting phenomena could be a simple message that defines how one element could not exist without another and their symbiosis is what defines beauty that Shane captures in his works.

Every single photograph that is being represented by 4 Element Photos is not only executed professionally but also narrates a story. Just by scrolling through Shane’s portfolio, you may find yourself feeling like an explorer as each of the works takes you on an unforgettable adventure. Shane catches the most incredible storylines; such as wolves feeding on their prey, or wild kings of the Savanna getting into a deathly battle. Yet, his works are filled with a sense of peace and harmony as they represent a cycle of life and a deep understanding of our role on this planet.
